Gender Equality in the Tech Industry

Hello fellow students of Make School. How are you all? I have a very quick question for you all today; going into software development, how do you view women in the tech industry? Equally to men, I hope, but people exist in the tech industry that don’t think that way. Those at Uber, for example. Sure, their female to male ratio has changed, but their ideology remains the same. Tragic stories like Susan Fowler’s experience proved that although it may seem like an improvement at first, is no different than doing nothing.

In the future, not only do we need to make complete equality for men and women, but we also have to create a welcome environment for all. The tech industry should be a place of passion filled with the drive of being able to make the world a better place with the power of technology. It shouldn’t be filled with childish racism or sexism. When you find your dream job, remember why you got there. Was it to discriminate against others to put yourself ahead of others? Wrong, you are there because you love what you do. You love to work with other passionate people to create wonders of technological magic. So next time you feel jealousy or hatred, fill that hate with love. Hate is a strong emotion, but love is even more powerful.
